Coalition Goals
Our first goal is to reduce the use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs among secondary school youth (7-12 grades) and, over time, among adults in the community by:
- Providing information and access to drug and alcohol prevention programs
- Developing a peer mentoring program (Youth to Youth)
- Following-up with counseling and treatment for drug suspensions/expulsions from school
We will increase awareness of alcohol, tobacco, and other drug related issues by:
- Developing a “Parent Resource Guide”
- Expanding partnerships with community organizations
- Developing a resource website
- Hosting and attending community events
Our second goal is to establish and strengthen collaboration and partnership among various community groups and agencies to support efforts to prevent and reduce substance abuse among youth.
We will accomplish this by increasing collaboration between health educators and service providers, therefore expanding CV CAN membership and partnership. Through our collaborations we will:
- Arrange classroom presentations by service providers.
- Expand Community participation in CV CAN programs via outreach programs such as the “Parent Resource Guide”, the CVCan! Website and presentations to community organizations.
